... or big in this case.
Usually I like to post about the little things in life on Fridays, but today it's just not going to work out that way. Even though it seems like he was just wearing fatigues and pretending to be a soldier in our back yard, my "little" brother was commissioned into the army today as a first lieutenant; apparently that's a pretty big deal. We come from a long line of civilians so I really have no idea how this whole army thing works, but I'm sure I'll learn more as the years go on. My brother starts med school in the fall and will serve in the army when he gets out. A family friend who is in the Marines was able to come up and commission Christopher. It was all pretty neat to watch and my brother wanted me to take pictures.
Here are a few shots from today.

My parents and brother before the ceremony. Yes, my brother is as tall as he looks.
Taking his "oath of office." Didn't realize anyone other than the President took one of those.
What followed the official handshake.
The Riley family. It has been years since we had a picture taken of the four of us.
And guess what terrible mom did not get a photo of Caroline at the ceremony? That would be me. In my defense, she was asleep in the stroller and all covered up to protect her from the sun. We'll have to have Christopher post with her for a commemorative picture later.
A very proud moment! So much emotion. A special "thank you" to your brother for serving and protecting our Country!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend:)
God Bless,
Diane
Just found your blog on Kelly's Korner - and I think we need to be friends! Fellow Christian stay at home mama. I've got 2 and one on the way (27 month old girl, 14 month old boy, and due in July). Love your preschool projects!
ReplyDeleteFirst off a big thanks to your brother for choosing to serve and another big thanks to your family for supporting his decision. I also come from a long line of civilians and both my oldest son and my son-in-law decided to go Navy. It is not an easy life but a proud one. You captured some wonderful shots! My best to your brother may he stay safe. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory for Riley to look back at someday! And, you look amazing by the way. :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! Congrats to your brother, & your family, that's quite an accomplishment! You have such a beautiful family, & that last pic of your lil girl is A-mazing! She is just darling... no wonder she is beautiful like her mommy!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend, & thanks so much for your sweet words!
Wow! What a great thing your brother will be doing with his life...my uncle was in the Navy, a big wig officer of some sort (and my grandfathers were in the army), but like you, I don't know much about all this military stuff. Sounds like he's going to make your family proud!
